INSEAD the business school for the world

Certificate in Corporate Governance

Overview

INSEAD aims for its Certificate in Corporate Governance to become a global credential amongst board members operating internationally – one of the first of its kind offered by an academic institution. The certificate attests of a director’s commitment to continuously develop her or his effectiveness and excellence as a Director, by applying and building upon the skills and knowledge acquired through their successful attendance of the International Directors Programme and completion of the certification requirements:

  • Demonstration of the necessary credibility to assume board roles
  • Successful participation in the three programme modules
  • Capability of application of the programme learning to actual board contexts – and insightful reflection on the programme topics (attested through a written report)
  • Evidence of a spirit of continuous self-improvement in board service
  • Oral defense of the report at the discretion of the Certification Committee

Successful completion of the certificate enables participants to become alumni of INSEAD (51,500 alumni worldwide), and join an exclusive international network of senior peer directors (former participants of the IDP) who stay connected with INSEAD and its faculty for continuous exchange on research and practice via a new official alumni club: the IDP Corporate Governance Network.

INSEAD Certificate in Corporate Governance: 34 new INSEAD IDP-Cs celebrated their graduation in Asia!

On 27 February 2017, 34 participants from the International Directors Programme have successfully completed the requirements for the Certificate in Corporate Governance, a credential INSEAD is establishing in the field. A Certification Ceremony and INSEAD Directors Forum were organized on this occasion on the theme "Transforming Boards and Businesses".

The event was held in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Directors, the Singapore INSEAD Alumni Association and the IDP Network.

New IDP-Cs joined the IDP Corporate Governance Alumni Network composed of 398 International Directors IDP-Cs (52 nationalities).  The idea for the network was prompted by IDP-C alumni who desired to come together to promote good governance across the globe.  Besides organising events for members, the Network initiated the IDPN Advocate & Connect Board Search to connect IDP-Cs with boards looking for directors.

The next Certification Ceremony will take place in Fontainebleau, France, on 13-14 October 2017.

Save the date and stay tuned for more details coming your way.

    Donough

     Tierney

My certification paper helped me in reflecting on what I had learned from the International Directors Programme and how I could practically implement it in my Board activities. The paper has given me a blue print for actions and points to be considered in the coming months and years. I have already launched some of the actions from my paper at the board and will continue to refer back to the document and update as necessary. I see it as a living document.

The certification process pushed me to reflect on past experience and extract valuable lessons in a way which simply does not happen in the normal pattern of business life”.

Partners

We herewith take the opportunity to thank our partners Luxemburg Institute of Directors (ILA), PwC, Russell Reynolds Associates (RRA) for their help in the launch of the International Directors Programme, which provides a unique platform for the sharing of best international practice.

For its success, as of September 2012, the programme will run three times a year instead of twice, and once in Singapore as of June 2014, together with a fourth partner the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID).
